Ann Arbor Observer magazine, April 1984

This award-winning painting depicts the iconic view from the 'diag' on the campus of the University of Michigan campus is instantly recognizable by anyone who has spent any time in Ann Arbor Michigan. Following my move to this area in the early 1980s I fell in love with this college town, it's vitality, and the scenic campus. I would take frequent bike trips into town to meet friends on campus, often in the evening, when the surrounding streets and pathways were always brimming with students and locals in lively alfresco coffee shops or on route to somewhere. While a student at the UM art school in 1983, I created this pastel drawing from sketches.  If you look closely, you'll see Tice's, Ashley's, the Bivouac store, and Nickels Arcade. A nostalgic scene that has changed little since 1983.

This painting was selected as the cover of the Ann Arbor Observer Magazine in April 1984. It was awarded the People's Choice Award at the UM Alumni Show during the renowned Ann Arbor Art Fair.

The original art was drawn with pastel on deep blue paper and measures 17" x24". You may select prints of STATE STREET, ANN ARBOR in a variety of sizes.
